A New Era for Orthopedic Surgeries with NextAR on Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses

Operating theater tech takes a step forward

Real-time access to info has always been a priority among surgeons. Now, augmented reality (AR) is making life easier than ever on doctors through the display of hands-free Smart Glasses.

Medacta International, one of the world’s largest providers of orthopedics products, has used the Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses in the operating room for some time now.

In 2020, the firm completed the first ever Smart Glasses-based total knee replacement in the US.

Now, they’ve announced plans to double-down on wearable display tech in the OR, having placed a new Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses order to use in connection with the NextAR surgical platform.

Benefits for surgeons using NextAR on Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses:

Pre-op scan

Before starting, patient scans are fed through a series of algorithms. They provide personalized biomechanical models for each knee, hip and spine replacement - automating one of the most difficult parts of any surgery.

Visualize

Once a replacement model is ready, Vuzix Blade can project how the model will look in its display overtop of the patient - allowing surgeons to literally visualize the end result. This eliminates the need for practitioners to look between patients and computer screens.

Goodbye, robotic arms

The device reduces costs for hospitals, as bulky equipment like robotic arms are no longer necessary - nor are dedicated equipment operators.

NextAR on Vuzix Smart Glasses has the potential to revolutionize the world of orthopedic surgery.

Healthcare and AR

Vuzix Blade users also benefit from the device’s light-weight comfort, further enhancing their accuracy in each operation.

Completely wireless, wearable display tech has the potential to propel the global healthcare industry forward - toward a more efficient, cost-effective era.

Vuzix is pursuing certification to use NextAR on its M-Series Smart Glasses, as early adopters in the healthcare space embrace the technology.

For a visual rundown of NextAR - and how Vuzix Smart Glasses seamlessly improve the surgical platform, check out this video.
