Vuzix Designs and Manufactures Wearable Display Devices
The company is engaged in the design, manufacture, marketing and sale of wearable display devices. These devices are worn like eyeglasses and feature built-in video screens that enable the user to view and interact with video and digital content, including movies, video games, computer data and the Internet.
Our wearable display products are known commercially as Smart Glasses, Video iWear (Eyewear), head mounted displays or HMDs. These products are capable of providing virtual, large high-resolution screens and yet they can fit in a user's pocket or purse and can be viewed practically anywhere, anytime. Vuzix devices can also be used for virtual and augmented reality applications, in which the wearer is either immersed in a computer generated world or has their real world view augmented with computer generated information. Our products are designed to work with mobile electronic devices, including cell phones, laptop computers, tablets, and portable media players and gaming systems.
Vuzix’ focus for our Video iWear (Eyewear) products is primarily the consumer markets for gaming and mobile video while our Virtual and Augmented Reality products are also sold in the consumer, industrial, commercial, academic and medical markets.
Vuzix’ M100 Smart Glasses provide professional video eyewear that runs Android in the glasses. These devices are currently focused on the enterprise business markets and are being used by numerous Fortune 500 companies in diverse areas including warehousing and logistics, field service, remote maintenance, retail and medicine.
With Vuzix’ focus on optical systems, waveguides, system design, user interface and general ergonomics, we believe our intellectual property portfolio gives us a leadership position in the wearable display space. Key technologies include ultra-thin waveguide optics co-developed under license with Nokia, which will form the basis for many of our future products. Ergonomically our IP portfolio will enable us to focus on making wearable displays that will have a fashion based form factor, which we believe is a critical component to product acceptance in the consumer marketplace.
