The Wrap 920AR is based upon the Vuzix Wrap 920 video eyewear and a Wrap VGA Controller that enables PC compatibility and connectivity. It also includes a Wrap Tracker; a motion tracker that plugs into a special port on the Wrap 920 enabling software to monitor your direction and angle of view as well as movement. Embedded into the face of the eyewear are two specially modified USB video cameras that connect to a PC as two discrete USB webcams. Removable noise-isolating earphones round out the Wrap 920AR by delivering high-fidelity stereo audio.
Using the same display system as the popular Wrap 920 video eyewear, the Wrap 920AR provides the visual equivalent of a 67-inch display, at a distance of 10 feet, displaying crystal clear 2D or 3D video. The display capabilities of the Wrap 920AR can be used on virtually any composite compatible device. For use as an augmented reality system, it is connected to a Windows based personal computer (desktop, netbook or laptop) through the included Wrap VGA Controller.
2D video is supported of the box and 3D stereoscopic video is supported in side-by-side format. See Wrap 920 for additional information.
Stereo Camera Pair
The twin camera system of the Wrap 920AR provides two discrete video sources, each provided to a USB connected PC as standard USB video camera devices. Each camera captures 640 x 480 VGA video at 30 frames per second.
Each Wrap 920AR is equipped with a Wrap Tracker, a 6-degrees of freedom tracker with compass that plugs into the Wrap 920 video eyewear.
This high-tech powerhouse measures in at only 30 x 10 x 15 millimeters yet out-powers other consumer market head-tracking systems. Its multiple 3-axis gyros, accelerometers and magneto-resistive sensors provide positioning and movement tracking for yaw, pitch, roll, X, Y and Z. It plugs into an expansion port provided on compatible Wrap video eyewear models and includes software support for a multitude of existing games and other applications. A royalty free SDK (software development kit) assists software developers in adding their applications with Wrap Tracker support to virtual and augmented reality applications with minimal effort.
A pair of removable noise-isolating earphones are provided with the Wrap 920AR. They provide high-fidelity stereo audio while minimizing external noise interference or they can be removed to enable the use of alternate audio equipment. The earphones are recognized by Windows as standard USB speakers and can be managed as such through the Windows Control Panel.

The Wrap 920AR is a modular design enabling maximum flexibility. Some of this product’s components may be compatible with certain operating environments while others have very different compatibility profiles. To provide the broadest possible explanation, the composition of the product and each of the independent Wrap 920AR components must be looked at separately.Product Composition:
The Wrap 920AR is composed of three hardware sections; the video eyewear display, the video camera system and a host device interface, referred to as a Controller or Control Box.
The video camera system connects independently to the host system through it own USB 2.0 cable and connector. The model of Controller being used to connect the video eyewear display to the host system does not impact its connection.
The video eyewear display module connects to a host device through the Controller. The Controller governs its compatibility and connectivity.
A variety of Controllers are available but basically, they enable a Wrap 920AR to be connected to either the VGA video port and USB 2.0 ports on a PC or a composite video port on a multitude of devices ranging from video camera and DVD players to mobile phones.
Video eyewear display + Controller = host device compatibility.
Wrap 920 Video Display
As described above, the compatibility of the video display is completely dependent upon the Controller being used. If the Controller is compatible with a the host device, the eyewear display will show the video in 2D or 3D, based upon the content being played.
The audio system is also dependent on the Controller and its host compatibility.
If the Controller is working with a composite video host, the audio system will play the audio. If the host device is a personal computer connected through a Wrap VGA Controller, the PC will see the audio system as a standard USB speaker system and function accordingly.
Stereo Video Cameras
The video camera system connects independently to USB 2.0 port on a personal computer. It does not utilize nor does the Controller connected to the eyewear display impact the cameras.
The compatibility of the stereo camera system is governed by the available drivers – currently for Windows 7, Vista and XP operating systems only.
Note: Some users have reported success using the cameras with alternate operating systems. This is a configuration not officially supported by Vuzix and we are unable to offer additional assistance with this type of configuration.
The Wrap Tracker requires the use of the Wrap VGA Controller and is only supported by Windows 7, Vista and XP operating systems.
Additionally, code must be provided in software to enable use of the tracker. A Vuzix SDK is available for download and provides examples of how support is enabled.
Neither cabled nor wireless Tracker support is currently available other than the Wrap VGA Controller.
Wrap VGA Controller
The Wrap VGA Controller (adapter) is interned for use with a Windows 7, Vista and XP personal computer.
Note: Some users have been success using portions of the Wrap 920AR when connected to alternate operating systems. In most cases, Linux and Mac operating systems can support 2D and 3D video display, with the correctly formatted video content but other components may not function on those same systems. These a configurations are not officially supported by Vuzix and we are unable to offer additional assistance with them.
Wrap AA Control Box
This Control Box is powered by two AA batteries and enables the Wrap video eyewear display to connect to a composite video host device. Alternate Controllers with a variety of battery options are available from the Vuzix website and perform the same service.
Please note that Tracker support is not provided by this and other composite Controllers.
VR Manager Software
VR Manager is a Windows based software that provides head tracker calibration, enables 3D video and tracker support in a number of Windows application and enables the creation of VR enabling extensions for Windows program.
This application is a Windows only product.
Both the maxReality AR authoring plug-in and is independent Viewer application are Windows based applications. They are not compatible with other operating systems.
Requires 32-version of Autodesk 3ds Max (not included).
AR Marker Paddles
Two AR marker paddles are provided with the Wrap 920AR. These markers are designed for compatibility with the ALVAR marker system from VTT.
Note: Though other AR authoring system may be able to learn markers and use these, such use is not officially supported by Vuzix and we are unable to offer additional assistance with this type of usage scenario.
