AR (Augmented Reality) is a mixture of your real-world view and enhanced with computer-generated content. The Wrap 1200AR empowers you to see the world through the Wrap eyewear displays, augmented by computer content – all seen in 3D from your own viewing perspective for unmatched realism.
The Wrap 1200AR is a near-eye display system, worn like a pair of eyeglasses, to display video content provided by a Windows based PC. A pair of cameras, mounted in front of the displays, captures the world around you, from your viewing angle and perspective. This video capture is fed into processing software (not included) where is it processed by an AR content system and fed back to the displays showing your real-world view augmented by the appropriate AR content.
Key Components
AR Authoring Software:
The Wrap 1200AR is compatible with most leading AR content authoring systems. Through utilization of industry standard video capture and display technology most AR authoring systems designed to be compatible with standard webcams and desktop monitors are inherently compatible with the Wrap 1200AR’s video capture and display systems.
Stereo Camera Pair:
The Wrap 1200AR uses a specially housed stereo camera pair mounted to the face of the display system, enabling a realistic video capture from your personal viewing perspective. By digitally capturing the real world through a pair of cameras, the captured content can be displayed back to the user in 2D or realistic 3D when shown in a full screen side-by side format. No special stereo drivers are required and 3D playback is compatible with virtually all Windows graphics cards.
Stereo Display System:
Twin WVGA displays show 2D and 3D content in 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios. Individual left and right eye optical focus and eye-separation adjustment accommodates a broad range of users. Integrated display angle and camera angle adjustment further aid in achieving the best possible display quality in a 75 inch virtual display system, as seen from 10 feet (~3M).
Head Tracker:
The Wrap Tracker is the world’s most popular 3-DOF head tracking system and it’s included with each Wrap 1200AR.
The Wrap Tracker plugs into the eyewear and includes calibration software. Direct application support is demonstrated in the Vuzix VR/AR SDK, available for free download.
Audio:
Great audio is essential for a realistic AR experience. The Wrap 1200AR includes removable noise-isolating earphones and can be removed if unneeded or plugged in for high quality, high-fidelity stereo sound support.
Vuzix VR/AR SDK:
Vuzix provides a VR/AR SDK to assist software developers in enabling direct support for Vuzix technologies in their applications. This SDK for Windows demonstrates stereoscopic 3D video, head tracking and utilization of the AR camera data. Wrap 1200 Display System: The popular Wrap 1200 video eyewear display system forms the base for the Wrap 1200AR. It offers adjustable focus, eye-separation and viewing angle in a display equivalent to a 75 inch monitor viewed from 10 feet (~3m). Capable of displaying 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio content in 2D or stereoscopic 3D, it offers uncompromising display quality and performance. Compatible with virtually all makes and models of Windows graphics cards.
Stereo AR Camera System: A stereo camera pair, mounted to the face of the eyewear, allow for a 3D stereoscopic video capture of the world and AR markets, if used. Seen by Windows as two independent USB web cams the Wrap 1200AR camera system is compatible with virtually all major AR content authoring systems. Supports VGA video capture at 30 frames per second.
Head Tracking: The Wrap Tracker, with compass, employs the latest in IMU technology enabled through a series of nine gyros, accelerometers and magneto-resistive sensors. Utilizing it 3-DOF head tracking capabilities, supporting applications can be spacial aware and respond to the user’s current direction and angle of view. Includes VR Manager, a tracker calibration and VR enablement application.
Audio: Removable noise-isolating earphones provided the Wrap 1200AR with. high-fidelity stereo audio and minimize external noise interference. They are easily removed to enable the use of alternate speaker systems.
AR Authoring Software: The Wrap 1200AR is designed to work with virtually all leading augmented reality authoring software for Windows. Through the use of industry standards for audio, 2D and 3D video display and video capture, you are assured broad compatibility with whichever AR content authoring system you choose.
maxReality: As a bonus, a free license for maxReality is included. maxReality is an AR authoring plugin for Autodesk 3ds Max, a leader in 3D object and character creation and animation. maxReality enables you to transform 3ds Max scenes and objects into 3D AR content with as little as a mouse-click. Developer SDK: Vuzix provides free download access to the Vuzix VR/AR SDK to assist developers in embedding Wrap 1200AR feature support in their software. The Vuzix VR/AR SDK demonstrates 3D stereoscopic video, head tracking and AR video camera access, usable royalty free in private and commercial software applications.
